KIRSTEN BOMBLIES, born in Germany and brought up in Colorado, is a molecular biologist and the Thomas D. Cabot Associate Professor in the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology Department at Harvard University. She has a BA in biochemistry and biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in genetics from the University of Wisconsin (2004), where she worked with John Doebley. From 2004 to 2009, she was a post-doc in Detlef Weigel’s group at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, Germany, where she discovered a passion for plant speciation, immune-system evolution, adaptation, and biogeography.
In 2008, she received a MacArthur Fellowship.
