STEVEN PINKER is the Johnstone Family Professor in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University. Until 2003, he taught in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT. He conducts research on language and cognition, writes for publications such as theNew York Times, Time, and Slate, and is the author of six books, including The Language Instinct, How the Mind Works, Words and Rules, The Blank Slate, The Stuff of Thought, and The Better Angels of Our Nature.

MARCY KAHAN is an award-winning screenwriter and stage dramatist. She has written ten original plays for BBC radio including: Everybody Comes to Schicklgruber's, which won a Sony Award in 1997, and The Uncertainty Principle, a comedy about genetic forecasting set in Manhattan in 2099 and commissioned by BBC World Service to mark the beginning of the new century. She's also written many radio adaptations including: The Railway Children, The Wizard of Oz, and most recently, a ten-hour dramatisation of Tolstoy's War and Peace.
