DANIEL L. EVERETT, a former evangelical Christian missionary to the Pirahãs in the Brazilian Amazon for more than 20 years, is Dean of Arts and Sciences at Bentley University. Formerly, he was Chair of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and Professor of Linguistics and Anthropology at Illinois State University.
He is the author of Don't Sleep There Are Snakes: A Life in the Amazon; Language: The Cultural Tool; Dark Matter of the Mind: The Culturally Articulated Unconscious; and How Language Began: The Story of Humanity's Greatest Invention.
