EMILY PRONIN is Associate Professor of Psychology at Princeton. Her research concerns natural asymmetries in the way we perceive ourselves versus the way we perceive others. It further concerns how the processes involved in self and social perception can lead us to misperceive and misunderstand ourselves, and others. Another area of research involves how we adjust our identities in response to threatening stereotypes. Studies investigate how women in mathematics "bifurcate" their feminine identities in the face of negative stereotypes about their math ability and potential.
