HUGO MERCIER is a young cognitive scientist and a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He did his doctoral work under Sperber's supervision on reasoning and argumentation.

He has published many articles on the argumentative theory of reasoning, several of them in collaboration with Sperber. He has been teaching and lecturing on the topic in Europe and in America. He is also a noted scientific blogger at www.CognitionAndCulture.net
