DUNCAN STEEL is a research astronomer at the Joule Physics Laboratory at the University of Salford. A world-renowned authority on the comet hazard, he has served on both the Detection Committee and the Intercept Committee created by NASA to assess the threat of comet and asteroid collisions and investigate technologies to avert such impacts. He is the author of Marking Time: The Epic Quest to Invent the Perfect Calendar, Eclipse: The Celestial Phenomenon Which Has Changed the Course of History, and Rogue Asteroids and Doomsday Comets.
