Christian Keysers

CHRISTIAN KEYSERS is scientific director of the newly founded Neuro-Imaging-Center of the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands).

Born in 1973, of French and German parents in Belgium, Christian Keysers was a leading investigator in Parma in the research group that made the original discovery of mirror neurons from 2000 till 2004, when he went to the Neuro-Imaging Center. He has received the highly competitive European Union Marie Curie Excellence Award in recognition for his ground-breaking research on the neural basis of empathy, and has received over 2 million Euros of grants in the last year to continue his research.

His combination of scientific excellence, youth and enthusiasm makes him an acclaimed public speaker, invited to give plenary lectures at prestigious scientific (e.g. plenary talks at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society annual meeting, The American Association for the Advancement of Science) and laymen conferences.
